“Mining sector intelligence is essential to improve productivity”
TAHRA – The head of the Organization for the Development and Modernization of Mines and Mining Industries (IMIDRO) in Iran said that intelligence is the only solution to improve the productivity of mines and mining industries.
Muhammad Aghaganloo said that based on the Supreme Commander’s order, the mining sector has the potential to replace the oil sector in the economy, and added: To achieve this, this sector must be equipped with the necessary tools.
Iran’s mining sector plays a pivotal role in the country’s economy, contributing significantly to non-oil export revenues. With more than 68 types of minerals, including significant reserves of iron ore, copper, zinc and rare earth elements, the country ranks among the top 15 mineral-rich countries in the world.
The country boasts more than 10,000 active mines, employing hundreds of thousands of workers directly and indirectly. Major mining centers such as Yazd, Kerman and East Azerbaijan provinces are home to large-scale operations, including mineral and mineral extraction and processing facilities of importance to local industries and global markets.
Recent years have witnessed significant investments in this sector to enhance production capacity and modernize infrastructure. The government also prioritized the development of manufacturing industries, especially in steel and aluminum production, to maximize value addition and reduce dependence on raw material exports.
Furthermore, Iran’s strategic location, with access to both the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea, positions it as a major player in the regional and international trade of mining products. Despite the challenges posed by international sanctions, the mining industry continues to demonstrate resilience and adaptability, leveraging local resources and enhancing cooperation with friendly countries.
With a continued focus on sustainability and technological innovation, the mining sector is poised to maintain its upward trajectory and strengthen its position as the cornerstone of Iran’s economic development.
