Indian company Gainwell Engineering ships its first home-made continuous mining machine

Gainwell Engineering says the first indigenously manufactured continuous mining package has rolled out from its manufacturing facility in Panagarh, West Bengal, India, bound for the Jangra mine, which is part of Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India.

The 727kW GCM345M weighs 74.8 tonnes and has a mining range of 2210-4318mm. The cutting diameter is 1,118 mm, the cutting roller width is 3,581 mm, and the cutting power is 2 x 209 kW.

The company says that this achievement not only represents an important step for Gainwell Engineering, but is also in line with the Make in India initiative, reinforcing the country’s vision of self-reliance in manufacturing of advanced capital goods.

The machine was inaugurated at the Jhangra Project mine by Shri Satish Jha, Chairman and Managing Director, ECL, along with Shri Niladri Roy, Director (Technical) of ECL, and other dignitaries. Gainwell says it is grateful to Coal India and ECL for choosing the company as a reliable equipment partner.
