Dixon conference date to be determined News, sports, jobs
HOUGHTON — A conference in the Evan Dixon case scheduled for Jan. 2 was postponed Thursday and will be rescheduled for sometime next week. The date has not been determined yet.
Houghton County Prosecutor Daniel Helmer asked the court to choose a date.
“What I would rather do is have the court suggest some trial dates.” Helmer said. “I think I’ll give ourselves four or five days.”
Dixon’s attorney, Karl Numinen, said he felt three days would probably be enough, but an extra day would allow more leeway.
Marquette County District Court Judge Matthew Weese, who is presiding over the case, said he set some dates and emailed them to attorneys
Numinen also requested an inventory of evidence related to the case, which includes a number of items seized during the preliminary investigation before the next hearing.
Dixon, 60, pleaded not guilty in September to two charges related to the shooting death of Theron Duncan, 53, in downtown Houghton. He is charged with first-degree murder, punishable by up to life in prison, and felony firearms, punishable by up to two years in prison.
