Day 10’s bills include more tax reform, tax flows on electronics, DEI ban, and crypto mining

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – Nebraska state senators introduced dozens of bills on Tuesday, the 10th day in session.

Lawmakers introduced 197 pieces of legislation Wednesday, including two amendment proposals, on their last day to introduce bills.

Here’s a quick look at the bills senators have introduced Day 10:

senator Mike Jacobson North Platte provided LB526which would create a consumption tax on cryptocurrency mining and allow public jurisdictions to require such payments and documentation from mining operations in order to provide infrastructure upgrades.

senator Kathleen Koth From Omaha I came LB530Which increases Penalties for vehicular homicide In the event of the death of an unborn child. Also provided LB532requiring employers using E-Vertifice and Prohbit to knowingly hire unauthorized aliens, and penalizing employers when they do.

senator Brian Hardin From Gering provided LB538which requires school boards and post-secondary education institutions to train to prevent discrimination and anti-Semitism.

senator Rick Holcroft From Bellevue Ft LB541which would eliminate online voter registration, restrict voter registration by mail, require grounds for early voting, require hand counts of ballots and change provisions related to voter registration and voting.

senator Lauren Lippincott Provided downtown LB549which would allow schools to hire a volunteer chaplain; LB550which requires school districts to allow students excused absences when attending weekly religious education classes upon written request from parents or guardians; and LB552Which would prevent colleges from having DEI offices or policies.

senator Brad von Gehlen From Elkhorn provided LB558which would create a task force to review the state highway system. As presented LB650which would eliminate some sales tax exemptions and change tax credits and some nonresident income tax provisions. In addition, and Revenue Committeechaired by von Gehlen, also introduced three tax reform bills: LB647 on property taxes, LB648 On sales taxes, and LB649 on income taxes; and LB712which would raise the sales tax on e-cigarettes.

senator Jane Raybould From Lincoln Ft LB605which requires Nebraska school boards to adopt policies that would allow transgender athletes to compete in school sports. Also provided LB673 and LB674which would move $250 million from Perkins County Canal Project Financing for the Water Sustainability Fund.

senator John Kavanaugh From Omaha I came LB616which would provide enforcement of red light violations using automatic license plate reader systems.

senator Tom Brandt ft. Plymouth LB561which would allow the vehicle carrying raw milk to exceed the weight limit by a specified amount; and LB562which would raise Nebraska park permit fees.

senator Ashley Spivey From Omaha I came LB584 and LB585Which would set the rules for issuing sentences for juvenile offenders; and LB586which would provide assistance to voters in certain facilities to ensure they are able to cast their ballots. Also provided LB706which would mandate that trained social workers accompany law enforcement

senator Bob Andersen From Omaha I came LB612requiring the state to pay county courts half of their operating costs.

senator Elliot Bustar From Lincoln Ft LB608which would allow correctional staff, youth detention officers, and certain survivors to be eligible for First Sensor insurance benefits. As presented LB710Which would increase the earned income tax credit.

senator Theresa Ibach From Sumner Ft LB646which would exempt certain feeds from inspections and audits provided they submit an application, pay a $500 fee, submit to a background check, and be allowed to be viewed, operated and investigated by a state trademark commission agent.

senator Daniel Conrad From Lincoln Ft LB651Which would establish regulation of medical cannabis.
