More than 200 people have fallen victim to a cryptocurrency mining scam in South Vietnam by offering VND4 billion (US$157,300) to a fraudulent platform.
Tran Minh Quang, 41, and three other individuals were arrested on Saturday to investigate the alleged fraudulent seizure of assets in Dong Nai province, which borders HCMC.
The police accused these individuals of developing a fraudulent website called BitMiner, with a Singapore domain, to lure victims into buying fake cryptocurrency Bincoin.
The group provided false advertisements to trick users that they had a company based in Dubai.
They recruited many collaborators by promising big profits. These collaborators were provided with manipulated trading materials and accounts to deceive investors.
Several cryptocurrency mining packages are offered to investors with different speeds, such as Red Diamond, Blue Diamond, Diamond Gold, Black Diamond, and Green Diamond.
They were invited to several forums to teach them how to mine cryptocurrencies using artificial intelligence and new technologies.
However, all of their investments went into portfolios controlled by Kwang and his partners.
