Malaysian Electricity Council – Tradingview News

Tenaga Nasional Behd (TNB), the largest electrical benefit provider in Malaysia, pointed out that the theft of illegal mining energy in encryption has increased by 300 % from 2018 to 2024. The Board of Directors added that illegal mining has increased due to global encryption transactions.

TNB derives statistics through a joint process that includes the Energy Committee, the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Committee, the police and local councils.

According to the power panel data, there were 610 cases that were discovered for energy theft in 2018, linked to illegal mining. He added that the numbers could reach 2,397 in 2024.

“The joint operations and raids at the level of the country have successfully closed the illegal mining settings,” TNB said in a statement. “These executive measures may protect the stability of the energy network.”

Statistics revealed that the average number of electricity thefts related to encryption amounted to 2,303 per year from 2020 to 2024. TNB publishes the “smart meter” to detect energy thefts

The council received about 1,699 encryption complaints between January 2020 and December 2024, with an average of 340 per month.

TNB said: “The number of complaints reflects the increase in public awareness of reporting illegal encryption mining activities.”

Moreover, the electric provider has published “smart meters”, which may improve the discovery of electricity theft and enable effective control.

The strategy came after the Board of Directors conducted a continuous analysis of consumption to discover the use of suspicious energy.

“We are working closely with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to support the use of fair and sustainable electricity, thus ensuring reliability for all customers.”

Smart Meter records the use of daily electricity and informs the numbers to TNB through radio frequency waves.

In addition, the Board of Directors suggested employing artificial intelligence and predictive analyzes to increase the improvement of the process, as stated in the report.

When it comes to legal enforcement, TNB suggested strict procedures under the Electricity Supply Law. Any person who excels or changes any electrical installation that bears a fine of one million Rangeit (232 thousand dollars), or imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both.

DaUK Seri Mohd Shuhaly Mohd Zain, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman (CID), noted that TNB lost about 520 million Ranget ($ 121 million) for electricity theft.

“Most cases included illegal encryption mining,” he told the newspaper “Star”.

Moreover, he pointed out that encryption mining unions often operate from rented stores, warehouses or residential homes with low traffic.

“Several unions then install arduous ventilation systems, air conditioners and sound insulation materials to avoid attracting attention from neighbors or enforcement authorities.”

Moreover, these criminals illegally exceed the electricity meter by clicking directly in the main power network for the surplus of electricity consumption.

The officer said: “This allows them to consume huge amounts of electricity – often equivalent to what will be used by an entire residential bloc,” adding that these unions do not adhere to one place to avoid attention.

“They converted their operations every few months into new places,” he pointed out.

In February, the Malaysian police revealed the preparation of illegal mining for Bitcoin, after an explosion at home that hosted the operation. Investigations found that electricity had been illegally connected to Bitcoin mining, causing a short circle.
