TNB reports in Malaysia 300 % increase in theft of encryption mining energy

Illegally, the largest electricity company in Malaysia, says Tenaga Nasional berhad (TNB), the largest electricity company in Malaysia. By 2024, this number increased to 2,397.

These are miners tampering with electricity meters to reach cheap electricity without paying them. Thus, this cost TNB millions and risk power outages. TNB has announced that it will work with the police, the Energy Committee and anti -corruption officials on raiding and stopping illegal mining operations throughout the country.

According to reports, TNB says that more people report illegal encryption mining because they notice this, with 1,699 complaints from 2020 to 2024, about 340 per month. These people have created secret mining operations that use a lot of electricity, and sometimes in people’s homes, which leads to a rise in giant bills to 27,8400 dollars (1.2 million Malaysian Rangeette) for unacceptable real estate owners.

Curd mining machines are used from 1000 to 8000 watts of energy and benefit from cheap electricity in Malaysia, which cost $ 0.052 per kilowatt hour. In 2024, Malaysia produced 15451 GB of an hour of electricity, according to CEIC data.

To stop illegal encryption mining, TNB uses smart meters that follow the use of electricity through radio signals and unusual activity immediately. TNB implements harsh penalties under the Electricity Supply Law in Malaysia. She receives a fine of up to $ 212,000 (Malaysian Rangeette) or 10 years in prison for anyone tampering with the power network.

TNB efforts have helped stabilize the electricity system in Malaysia. In other countries such as Kuwait, governments do something similar. They recently targeted more than 1,000 illegal mining sites that caused the power outage.

TNB work shows that illegal encryption mining is a global issue. Malaysia wants to support its digital economy, but it also needs a reliable power network. This initiative of TNB takes strong measures to protect the country’s energy network.
